Health And Safety

Arboriculture is potentially hazardous and Peter Stopford Tree Specialists is committed to providing a safe working environment for all its employees, sub-contractors and the general public.

Before any work begins, site-specific Risk Assessments are carried out to help ensure safe working environments. These allow likely health and safety issues to be identified and addressed methodically.

All employees receive comprehensive training on Health and Safety, covering:

  • Training
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hearing and noisy working environments
  • Manual handling
  • Working at height and safe chainsaw operation
  • Safe use of wood chippers
  • Safe use of mobile stump grinders
  • Emergency planning
  • Aerial tree rescue
  • Electricity at work
  • Working on highways and public places

Our Health and Safety Policy complies with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Health and Safety (consultation with employees) Regulations 1996 and the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977.

The policy also reflects Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations and advice from the Arboricultural and Forestry Advisory Group (AFAG).

Two staff are qualified 'First Aiders' and hold the 'First Aid At Work' qualification, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 (Health and Safety Executive Approval No. 447/82). This was issued by St John Ambulance. All other staff receive at least one day of first aid training.
